๐ World Refugee Day ๐ค![]()
Today is World Refugee Day! ๐๏ธ A day to honor the courage, resilience, and dignity of millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes due to war, persecution, or natural disasters. ๐บ๏ธ It is also an opportunity to stand in solidarity with them and support their rights. ๐โค๏ธ![]()
But what does it mean to stand in solidarity with others? And why is it important? ๐ค![]()
Solidarity is the willingness to help others without expecting anything in return. ๐คฒ It is how we strengthen our communities through empathy and social responsibility. ๐ซโจ![]()
Val-YOU believes in promoting European values among young people and equipping students with the tools to become active, informed citizens in a democratic society. ๐ช๐บ๐ซ They provide teachers and educators with resources to help guide their students through important concepts such as solidarity, justice, equality, and human rights. ๐โ๏ธ![]()
๐ง Is solidarity something we are born with?
Research suggests that humans have an innate capacity for empathy and cooperation from a very young age. ๐ถ๐ฑ However, while the potential for solidarity is born within us, it must be actively nurtured, practiced, and expanded beyond our immediate circle to become a core value. ๐โค๏ธ![]()
๐ซ How can solidarity be taught and practiced in class?

๐ก Democracy is more than voting. When we think about democracy, we often think about elections. But democracy is something we experience every day โ especially in schools. ![]()
๐ฉโ๐ซ For teachers, it means creating a space where students feel heard, respected, and involved.![]()
๐ For students, it means expressing ideas, listening to others, and taking part in shared decisions. ![]()
It is democracy when we:
โ๏ธ listen to different perspectives
โ๏ธ respect others, even when we disagree
โ๏ธ participate actively in discussions
โ๏ธ take responsibility within a group ![]()
Democracy is not just a political system. It is a way of learning, teaching, and living together![]()
๐ฌ Education plays a key role: we donโt just learn about democracy โ we practice it every day. ![]()
